Folk Arts at the Capitol

The Missouri State Museum and the Missouri Folk Arts Program will cohost folk art demonstrations at this event.  Artists Jeff Bottiger of Edgar Springs, Mo., and his apprentice Matthew Fennewald of Clarksburg, Mo., will demonstrate the art of black powder horn making and decorative engraving. Powder horns are made from the horns of bison, cows or elk and used to carry gunpowder for muzzleloader firearms. The program will be held in the Missouri State Museum's History Hall, located in the east wing of the Missouri State Capitol. For more information, contact the Missouri State Museum at 573-751-2854.

Explore the Missouri River through photography, drawing and painting May 5 through June 27 at the Elizabeth Rozier Gallery, which is part of Jefferson Landing State Historic Site.  "Missouri River Art and Photography" features the work of William Helvey, fine art photographer and professional artist, whose pieces are sought by private and corporate collectors internationally.

Museum After Hours: Ice Age in Missouri

Mastodons, saber-toothed cats, giant sloths and many more large creatures walked the earth during our last glaciation, but did you know we are still in an Ice Age?  Come in out of the cold and learn about our last glacial period and what the future might hold for us. The program will be held in the Missouri State Museum's History Hall, located in the east wing of the Missouri State Capitol. Click here to read the news release.

The program continues the museum's ongoing series, "Museum After Hours," held the first Wednesday of each month.  In addition to the program, the museum's galleries will be open until 9 p.m.
